The Koa earring is made of ethically sourced cow bone paired with a brass finding; minimal and material-forward. A bone drop earring or a natural organic earring for those who wear the material itself as a statement.
Materials: Recycled brass with nano ceramic e-coat and a carved white bone. E-coating (electrophoretic coating) applies a thin, uniform nano-ceramic layer to brass jewelry. Unlike traditional coatings that sit on the surface, e-coating bonds at the molecular level, creating an invisible barrier that protects against tarnishing, water damage, and makes it hypoallergenic.
Care Instructions: The e-coating eliminates the need for polishing. Simply wipe clean with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive polishing cloths that could damage the coating.
Dimensions: 2.75 in long x 1.5 in wide
Maker: EcoDUNIA
Deep in the heart of Kibera, the largest slum in Eastern Africa, a remarkable transformation is taking place. Amidst the daily struggles, artisans are breathing life into raw materials, turning them into exquisite pieces of handmade jewelry. For many artisans, this craft is more than just a livelihood, it’s a way of preserving cultural heritage. Jewelry-making skills have been passed down for generations, and each artisan brings a unique touch to their work. Through Ecodunia, they have the opportunity to earn fair wages, support their families, and create a sustainable future. They also benefit from:
- Free daily meals – Every team member receives three nutritious meals a day, easing the burden of food insecurity.
- Health insurance – Employees and their families are supported with healthcare coverage, a rarity in many Kenyan workshops.
- Retirement savings – Through contributions to NSSF (National Social Security Fund), artisans save for their future with dignity.
- Diverse job creation – Today, the 20+ team includes not just artisans but also a chef, a workshop manager, a shipping manager, marketers, and creative professionals like photographers and videographers.
These benefits create stability, allowing each worker to focus on their craft, support their family, and dream bigger for their future.
